Physically challenged person arrested over Ekiti farmer’s killing

The Ekiti State Police Command has begun investigation into the killing of a farmer, simply identified as Sikiru, on his farmland allegedly by a deaf and dumb man.

Sources said the incident occurred late on Tuesday evening at the Ipole Farm Settlement, Agbado Ekiti in the Gbonyin Local Government area of the state.

The sources alleged on Wednesday that the deaf and dumb, identified as Alabi, stole the victim’s farm produce and attacked him when the farmer challenged him.

According to them, fellow farmers rushed at Alabi and apprehended him in the act.

A source said, “The deaf and dumb man had on the fateful day gone to Sikiru’s farm to steal some farm produce.

“When Sikiru challenged him on why he had been stealing his farm produce over time, he became violent and attacked the farmer with a deep machete cut on his neck with the head almost falling off.

“It was the agonising cry of the farmer, who was already dying and drenched in his own blood that attracted other farmers to the scene. They rounded up the deaf and dumb and later called the police,” she said.

The Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident and arrest of the suspect, said the police had begun investigations into the incident.

Abutu said, “The suspect has been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations. The suspect will be charged to court on conclusion of the investigations.”
