Turtle Beach Stealth 600 gen 3 review: Extra battery life is a PS5 game changer

Most gamers don’t want a lot really when it comes to a decent headset.

Comfort, audio quality and a good length of battery generally tick all the key boxes.

Turtle Beach know this and this relatively low-priced third generation headset very much meets those core requests well.

The Stealth 600s are compatible with pretty much any device.

They come in black and white across both the PS5 and Xbox versions with the PC version in black only.

This is the world’s best-selling wireless gaming headset series and you can see why upon unboxing.

For £99 you get a lot of tech for your money, with thick, heavily padded memory foam cans and a comfy cushioned headband joining them.

There are versions for both Xbox and Playstation

They slot on lovely and connect to your device of choice either by Bluetooth or a plug-in USB dongle that comes in the pack.

You can easily switch between the two modes too, meaning you can use these earphones for a bit of music listening between rounds of Fortnite using the built-in QuickSwitch button.

Same with the chat mode, which uses AI to reduce background noise when you’re talking to ensure you sound clear and crisp to listeners on the other end of your gaming session.

There’s a neat flip-to-mute microphone on the left hand side of the device that tucks away when you’d prefer a more solo experience.

The volumes, both for audio and mic, sit nicely on the back of that can, as well as the power switch and ‘mode’ button, featuring a series of audio presets.

They feel light in the hands and on the head, even in long gaming sessions, but equally they don’t feel like they’re going to instantly break if you drop them by accident.

All black, they just look effortlessly cool too.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – right?

The Turtle Beach cans work across most devices

Battery-wise these babies boast a massive 80-hour life per change, and you can charge them up quickly with the USB-C cable that comes in the box.

That’s almost double the charge of the previous generation of these cans, so Turtle Beach has spent a lot of time and effort improving that.

Ultimately it means big long sessions in the chair without the constant fear of having to stop to charge up your headset.

The sound itself is incredibly defined, with bullets and explosions absolutely booming in your ears thanks to the amplified 50MM nano clear drivers in each can.

There’s a real sense of space in these earphones with, in the best games, a feel that characters are beside or behind you, giving you a real advantage in competitive multiplayer when even millisecond counts.

You kind of get a sense of where everyone around you actually is.

Quieter moments and more chat-driven storytelling sections of games are nice and clear and make sure there’s no muddying between talk and background music.

And away from gaming, I found the Stealth 600s more than capable of delivering a strong overall sound across multiple music genres, like rock and rap.

PC gamers can add to their aural onslaught too by pairing these with the Swarm II app

PC gamers can add to their aural onslaught too by pairing these with the Swarm II app to add in a 3D audio boost.

They play over low-latency 2.4Ghz wireless, meaning there’s zero delay between the sound you’re hearing wirelessly to what’s happening on screen.

And their design is purposefully glasses friendly too for those wearing specs.

Overall, an excellent pair of cans.

The battery life tweak from the previous generation is an absolute win for this price.

While there are better gaming headphones out there at higher prices, for the money these are the very best in class.

VERDICT 5/5
